Tanzania has already set the stage for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations with the construction of a stunning new stadium worth $112 million (approx. Tsh 280 billion).
Planned to seat 30,000 spectators, the venue will be named after President Samia Suluhu Hassan and is expected to become a landmark for both sports and tourism in Arusha.
A Historic AFCON on the Horizon
The stadium, currently taking shape in the Olomoti area, is one of Tanzania’s centerpiece projects for AFCON 2027, which will run across June and July. This edition of the tournament will be historic, as it will be:
- The first AFCON to be co-hosted by three nations, and
- The first return to the CECAFA region since Ethiopia last staged it in 1976.
A Design That Represents Tanzania
What makes this project special is its unique architecture, inspired by two of Tanzania’s most iconic symbols:
- The Tanzanite gemstone, and
- The majestic Mount Kilimanjaro.
These inspirations are reflected in the stadium’s modern design, giving it a truly Tanzanian identity while meeting CAF and FIFA international standards. Both players and fans can expect a world-class experience.
More Than Just Football
Construction has been entrusted to the China Railway Construction Engineering Group (CRCEG), a subsidiary of China Railway Group Limited.
According to Tanzania’s Culture, Arts and Sports Minister, Damas Ndumbaro, the project will deliver the most modern stadium in East Africa. Beyond football, the venue is also set to host:
- Athletics competitions
- Trade fairs
- Large cultural and entertainment events
