Manchester City are moving forward with their extensive expansion project for the Etihad Stadium’s North Stand, aiming to increase capacity to over 60,000 seats.
The anticipated completion of this latest development is targeted for approximately 12 months from now, in time for the 2025-26 season. The structural framework emerging at the rear of the North Stand, along with initial construction on the adjacent hotel and museum wings, gives a glimpse of the ambitious scale of the project.
Upon completion, all four stands will feature three tiers, allowing more local supporters who currently struggle to secure tickets to attend matches at City’s home ground. The addition of a significant tier behind one goal aims to amplify the crowd noise, enhancing the atmosphere traditionally associated with the family stand area. Nevertheless, concerns have surfaced among fan groups regarding the allocation of season tickets in the new stand, as well as the availability of matchday tickets for those without season passes.
There is apprehension among supporters that the emphasis on hospitality options in the expanded facility could potentially dilute the passionate atmosphere in favor of increased revenue generation. City faced criticism recently for raising season ticket prices ahead of the 2024-25 season, attributing the adjustments to inflationary pressures. The completion of the North Stand represents an opportunity for the club to rebuild rapport with fans and usher in a new era of vibrancy during home fixtures.
