The Cívitas Metropolitano also referred to as Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium for sponsorship reasons,, home of Atlético Madrid, is one of Europe’s most modern football arenas, blending cutting-edge design with a unique piece of the city’s sporting history.

Originally, the site was home to the Estadio de la Peineta, an athletics stadium built in 1994 as part of Madrid’s Olympic ambitions. When Atlético decided to move from their legendary Vicente Calderón, they chose this location—and, in a rare nod to the past, preserved the old main stand, integrating it seamlessly into the new design.

The rebuilt stadium officially opened on September 16, 2017, with a La Liga match against Málaga CF. It boasts a capacity of around 70,000 seats, a sweeping roof that changes colors with LED lighting, and world-class facilities for fans and players alike.

Since its reopening, the Metropolitano has hosted major events, including the 2019 UEFA Champions League Final, cementing its status as a world-class venue. With its bold architecture and deep roots in Madrid’s sporting culture, it stands as a symbol of Atlético’s growth and ambition—an iconic fortress where history and modernity meet.
