PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi Urges for a New Stadium to Stay Competitive in Europe.
Even the wealthiest football clubs face significant challenges, and for Paris Saint-Germain, stadium infrastructure has become a pressing issue. During the inauguration of the club’s new training center, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi addressed the matter in an interview with a French radio station, highlighting the urgency of building a modern stadium.
The Parc des Princes, PSG’s historic home, is owned by the city of Paris, and the club’s attempts to purchase it have been unsuccessful. Al-Khelaifi acknowledged the emotional attachment to the stadium but stressed the need for progress:
“I love the Parc des Princes—everyone loves it. If I listen to my heart, we’d never leave it. But in Europe, clubs have stadiums with capacities of 80,000 or 90,000 seats. We need one too, or we’re dead.”
With a capacity of under 50,000, the Parc des Princes lags behind the larger arenas of PSG’s European competitors. Al-Khelaifi emphasized the critical need for swift action:
“We’re in France, but also competing in Europe. The city isn’t cooperating. I’m not here to play politics, but we need a stadium ready in 3-4 years. There’s no time to waste, or we’ll fall behind the top clubs.”
This bold statement reflects PSG’s ambition to remain a dominant force on the global stage, where cutting-edge infrastructure plays a pivotal role in achieving sustained success.
