Bayern Munich supporters will be barred from attending the Champions League quarter-final clash against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, as mandated by UEFA. This decision follows an incident during Bayern Munich’s 3-0 victory over Lazio in the last-16 of the Champions League, where fans were found to have thrown fireworks onto the pitch.
This violation of UEFA’s regulations has led to a one-match ban on away fans for Bayern. The club has accepted UEFA’s decision and will not contest it. Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen remarked, “We must accept this penalty. The deliberate use of pyrotechnics on the field not only violated regulations but also endangered bystanders directly. Given the explicit breach of probation terms, an appeal would be futile. Playing without the support of our fans away from home is a significant setback.
A minority of individuals have tarnished the reputation of our supporters and the team.” This is not the first instance of Bayern Munich facing disciplinary measures from UEFA due to the conduct of their supporters. Previously, during a group stage match against Copenhagen, Bayern fans ignited fireworks, resulting in a €40,000 (£34,190) fine and a ban on away supporters.
