The U.S.A has over 400 volleyball arenas in all it’s 50 states, in this article we will be looking and ranking the 10 biggest volleyball arenas by capacity.

10. O2 Arena, Prague, Czech Republic

Capacity: 17,000

The O2 Arena is a multi-purpose arena located in Prague, it hosts several sport events like ice hockey, basketball and tennis. It has also hosted several concerts, in 2011 it hosted matches in the preliminary round of the 2011 Men’s European Volleyball Championship.

9. Capital Indoor Stadium, Beijing, China

Capacity: 17,345

Opened in 1968 the Capital Indoor Stadium in Beijing had it’s first renovations in the year 2001, with a capacity of over 17,300, the stadium hosted the 2008 Beijing Olympics where the American men’s volleyball team won it’s first gold medal in 20 years.

8. Štark Arena, Belgrade, Serbia, 

Capacity: 18,386

Home to Serbia’s volleyball National team, the Štark Arena has hosted all sorts of sports, such as basketball, judo, tennis, water polo. as well as loads of concerts, the stadium’s capacity stands at a comfortable number of 18,386, the arena hosted the 2009 FIVB Volleyball World League which is a tournament full of passion, energy and emotion.

7. Earls Court Exhibition Centre, London

Capacity: 20,000

Opened in 1937, the stadium hosted a lot of historical exhibitions, matches, musical events etc. unfortunately though, the center closed in 2014 and it remains derelict until this day. When it was open it hosted the 2012 London Olympic Games.

6.Cairo Stadium Complex, Cairo, Egypt

Capacity: 20,000

Built in 1991, consists of four multi-use indoor sporting arenas, it hosts differents kinds of sports and is home to Egypt’s Men’s National Team, it hosted some of the 2019 CAF Champions League

5. Pyongyang Gimnasium, Pyongyang, North Korea 

Capacity: 20,100

It is used to host indoor sporting events, such as basketball and volleyball, as well as concerts. The stadium is home to North Korean Women’s National Team and it was opened in 1973.

4. Sportpaleis, Antwerp, Belgium

Capacity: 23,359

The stadium is a multipurpose hall used for organizing concerts, sporting events, festivals, and fairs. It was opened in 1933 and renovated in 2013, the arena was built for sport, especially track cycling, but there is now little sport there, an exception being the Diamond Games tennis. It hosted the Final match of the 2015 Women’s Belgium Volleyball Cup.

3.  Palau Sant Jordi, Barcelona, Spain

Capacity: 24,000

The Palau Sant Jordi was one of the main venues of the 1992 Summer Olympics hosting the volleyball events. Today, it is used for a variety of indoor sport events as well as for concerts and other cultural activities, due to its great flexibility.

2. Baku Crystal Hall

Capacity: 25.000

With a 25,000 capacity, construction of the arena began in August 2011 and finished in April 2012 in time for it to host its first major event, the Eurovision Song Contest 2012. Following that in 2015, it hosted the European Games.

1.  Saitama Super Arena

Capacity: 36,500

The stadium is a favorite venue for puroresu and mixed martial arts (MMA). It has also hosted other sports events such as boxing, basketball, tennis, ice hockey, gymnastics and volleyball. It’s capacity stands at a staggering 36,500 it hosted the Pool A matches at the 2006 FIVB Volleyball Men’s Championship.

Volleyball without a doubt is a sport full of energy, passion, dedication and courage. That is proved by the participation of the fans in different matches, the stadiums though need to have the capacity to house all those adrenaline-hungry spectators, that is why having a large amount of capacity when the participation is high is so important.
